Events in Kiev
In such a large capital city it’s no surprise that there are a number of exciting events that place every year in Kyev. Many of the most exciting events in the city focus on concepts of pride and independence, although there are a number of cultural events as well.
New Year (December)
New Years Day is celebrated in the Ukraine as Christmas is Western Europe. This is when Santa comes and when families get together to party and look forward to a new year.
Kiev Day (March)
The city’s annual celebration is held at the end of May when central streets are closed off so visitors and locals can enjoy a huge number of entertainment and activities. As well as music, theatre, races and performances, the day ends with a fabulous fireworks display.
Ukrainian Independence Day (August)
This day of independence on the August 24th is met with as much celebration in the capital as it in the rest of the country, marking the 1991 independence of Ukraine from the Soviet Union. This is a day full of parades, street parties and yet another fabulous firework display.
Kiev Summer Music festival (September)
A month long classical music festival that takes place on weekends from September to October, this festival is popular with both visitors and locals. All concerts take place at the Central Park of Culture.
